This workshop is designed for groups who are seriously interested in starting their own organic farm.

We will cover all the essentials:

  • Heritage crops
  • Tools and equipment
  • Seedbed preparation strategies and techniques
  • Successive harvest planning
  • Managing fertility and improving soils organically
  • Growing techniques, direct seeding, and plant propagation
  • Field maintenance and weeding techniques
  • Irrigation options
  • Season extension
  • Post harvesting techniques

This workshop combines class time with practical sessions on our farm, where we demonstrate lots of techniques in the maara.

Our mission is to educate and empower a new generation of growers that will produce top-quality organic products for their community.

MORNING

  • Arrival of Visitors

AFTERNOON

  • Practical sessions start

    • Bed preparation strategies and techniques
    • Field maintenance and weeding techniques
    • Growing techniques, direct seeding, and plant propagation
  • Afternoon tea at the gardens 
    • Making amazing salad mixes
    • Making traditional rongoa
    • Health and safety

WORKSHOP ENDS @ 5PM

Food and water will be provided, the organic morning and afternoon tea will also be provided.

Location: The workshop will be held at Awatea Farm, Te Rewarewa Roadway, Whangarei, Northland.
